2006 Cruise Season set to Start Monday, June 19th
June 16, 2006
The cruise season begins Monday, June 19th when the Carnival Victory arrives at 9:00 AM. Carnival Cruise Line, a long time client of the Port Authority, will be the most frequent visitor in 2006 with sixteen out of the total thirty-three calls. She will sail out of the Port at 5:00 PM and return weekly until October 3rd.
“Through much consultation with the Port Authority, private-industry tourism partners, the City of Saint John, and the Province of New Brunswick, Carnival Cruise Line has made a significant commitment to developing the cruise market for Saint John as the “anchor in the Bay of Fundy”. The opportunity now rests with the community to ensure that cruise guests enjoy our many fine attractions, shops and eateries,” explains Captain Alwyn Soppitt, President and CEO of the Saint John Port Authority.
The Port’s signature Meet & Greet Committee is geared up to welcome the passengers and crew of the ships and have been armed with brochures, maps and the knowledge to direct passengers to area attractions.
The five-month long season, which winds up on October 31st, will bring close to 90,000 cruise guests and 36,000 crew. Highlights of 2006 are the inaugural call of Crystal Symphony on October 15th and two visits by Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 on October 8th and 20th.
